The California Independent System Operator (California ISO) continuously monitors the statewide power supply situation to minimize unplanned disruptions. However, the regional grid spans across the Western United States, and may be impacted by extreme weather, wildfires, or technical issues affecting power plants or transmission lines. When such conditions occur, Anaheim Public Utilities is required to respond to directives to initiate rotating outages to avoid widespread grid failures.
Businesses are encouraged to conserve during times of peak demand, typically on summer weekdays between 3 – 9 pm, and if possible, to shift heavy electrical use to off-peak times. Additionally, conserving energy through high efficiency equipment and lighting will help the grid and lower utility bills.
