Segerstrom High School’s football team took control early and went on to defeat Santa Ana Valley 49-7 in a non-league game at Santa Ana Valley Friday night.

“Our guys came out firing as Jesse Lopez connected with Ignacio Melchor on the first play of the game for a touchdown pass,” said Jaguars Coach Joseph Tagaloa. “This really set the tone for the offense. We were efficient on the offensive side of the ball scoring four passing and three rushing touchdowns.”

Many players contributed to the win.

“Defensively we had multiple guys flying around putting pressure on the quarterback all night,” Tagaloa said.

“Special teams played well. Our kick-off team got after keeping Valley pinned in their territory most of the night. The punt unit did a great job as well.  Overall it was a great night for our guys. They played hard and got the victory.”

Damian Roldan had the only touchdown for Santa Ana Valley.

Segerstom hosts California (1-1) while Santa Ana Valley (0-2) plays at Westminster Friday night.

“Now we look to prepare for California,” Tagaloa said. “It is our home opener so we are excited to be able to play in Jaguar Stadium.
