Segerstrom’s football team, coming off a highly successful regular season and Kappa League championship, dropped its CIF Division 7 playoff opener against Victor Valley 34-14 Friday night on the road.
The Jaguars (8-3) were unable to recover from a slow first half in which Victory Valley (6-5) took a commanding lead.

“Friday night we came out flat vs. a talented team,” Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa said Sunday. “Not quite sure what it was, but we were just a little off all night. Our boys played hard for all for quarters, but unfortunately it did not go our way.
“I know it’s hard to face the fact that our season is officially over, but we have so much to be proud of. We won the Kappa League title and represented our families and city all season long. With all the injuries that we had to overcome, I’m so proud of how we were able to stick together and truly play our hearts out.”
Ayden Morales had a rushing touchdown and Diego Garcia had a receiving touchdown pass from Louis Garcia for the Segerstrom scores.
Tagaloa remained proud of what his players had accomplished.
“Our 37 seniors left a legacy of championship football and I’m grateful for all of their commitment and passion for the game of football,” he said. “At the end of the day, football is a sport like no other that teaches life lessons and builds relationships that last a lifetime. Our Jaguars definitely did an amazing job this season and we will look to continue to build for next year.”
