Fullerton High School’s football team found itself in one of those pick your poison situations Friday night when it hosted Canyon High School, and, as the final score would indicate, there were no good options.
“You take one guy away, and they have someone else who can hurt you,” Fullerton Coach Richard Salazar said after Canyon improved its record to 3-0 with a 49-14 win over the Indians at Fullerton High.

Fullerton did manage to keep Comanche wide receiver Fox Haugen, who caught 87 passes as a junior, out of the end zone, but that ultimately mattered little to Canyon quarterback Christian Lundsberg, who found other receivers seven times for touchdowns.
Four of those TD passes went to Kayvon Manfared (49, 17, 72 and 20 yards). Thomas Cabral (78 yards), Colin Chin (6 yards) and Kyle Krause (78 yards) also caught touchdown passes.
Fullerton played without starting quarterback Ryan Reger, injured in last week’s win over Whittier and it showed in the early going with a handful of missed snaps. The Indians did find the end zone twice, on a third-quarter pass from Dallas Padron to Henry Pillon and a fourth-quarter run by Ben Chacon.
One thing is certain, the Indians are glad Lundsberg is a senior. In two games against Fullerton, the 6-4, 205-pound Lundsberg threw for more than 800 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Friday’s victory improved Canyon’s record to 3-0 under first-year Coach Phil Hughes. It is the best start for a Comanche football team since Brent McKee’s 2007 team began the season 6-0.
This week, Canyon gets a good test, hosting Pacifica (1-1) Thursday night. Fullerton (1-2) is at Santa Fe (3-0) Friday night.
