PHOTOS: Calvary Chapel opens Orange Coast League play with decisive road win

Calvary Chapel High School’s football team opened Orange Coast League play Friday defeating Costa Mesa 50-0 at Costa Mesa.

It was the second shutout of the year for Calvary Chapel (3-2 overall).

The Eagles were led by quarterback Matt Peters, who completed 13 of 23 passes for 315 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 100 yards.

Charles Sparks had eight catches for 170 yards and two touchdowns, Jackson Pellkofer four receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns, Gavin Ghahyasi four catches for 75 yards and and a touchdown and Sam Lara, who rushed for 45 yards on eight carries.

In the first quarter Peters hooked up with Sparks on a 46-yard TD pass.

The Eagles added to their lead in the second quarter,

Peters threw a 14-yard TD to Sparks, a 24-yard TD to Pellkofer, a 29-yard TD pass to Ghahyashi.

The Eagles added a safety following a punt when the punter unintentionally stepped out of bounds.

Calvary Chapel ended the half on a TD pass from Peters to Pellkofer, which was set up by a 30- yard pass and run from Peters to Sparks

In the third quarter, Peters had a 68-yard TD run and Matt Lux hauled in a 10-yard TD catch.

Coach Jack McInally’s ‘Calvary Chapel team is scheduled to host Saddleback Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Segerstrom.

Costa Mesa (1-4) has a bye this week.
