Calvary Chapel High School’s football team solidified its CIF playoffs hopes with a 42-29 Sigma League victory over Rancho Alamitos Thursday night at Bolsa Grande.
Calvary Chapel is tied with Estancia for second place in the league going into the final week of league play.
Quarterback Matt Peters led the Eagles (4-5, 3-1) completing 8 of 14 passes for 96 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 225 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns and had 123 return yards.

Peters had a 12-yard TD run in the first quarter to put the Eagles ahead. Rancho Alamitos (5-4, 1-3) took the lead when Jacob Vasquez scored on a 3-yard TD run and the Vaqueros scored a 2-point conversion.
Peters capped the quarter with a 47-yard TD run to put Calvary Chapel ahead 14-7.
In the second quarter, Peters had a 76-yard TD run and connected with John Schoening on an 18-yard TD pass to put the Eagles ahead 28-8.
Vincent Gentile threw a 5-yard TD pass to Davian Sanchez for Rancho Alamitos to cut the lead to 28-15 in the third quarter.
But Peters countered with a 10-yard TD pass to Waldo Castrejon and a 5-yard TD pass to Jorge Brito to put Calvary Chapel ahead 42-15.
Gentile tossed a 25-yard TD pass to Issac Filipe to cut the lead to 42-22. In the fourth quarter, Gentile hooked up with Osvaldo Ramos on a 58-yard TD pass to complete the scoring.
Rancho Alamitos wraps up league play Friday at Ocean View while Coach Jack McInally’s Calvary Chapel team hosts league leading Los Amigos (9-0, 4-0) Friday at Segerstrom.
