Beckman High School’s football team won its second in a row Friday night, defeating Calvary Chapel 20-0 on homecoming at Tustin.
But Coach Marcello Giuliano is still looking for improvement from his team which is 2-1 overall entering Thursday’s non-league game with Northwood (3-1) at Tustin.
“As happy as we are to have won these last couple of games, we have to stay focused on consistent improvement because every week in this conference is a challenge no matter who’s up next,” Giuliano said Monday.

Giuliano indicated the players seemed to enjoy the experience of playing in the rain. A rare September storm caused tough playing conditions throughout the county and one game was called at halftime.
“We were able to win a sloppy game in the rain last week against a solid Calvary Chapel team,” the coach said. “I really don’t think these kids have ever played a rain game in high school, it was homecoming, the student section was packed, and we had a TV crew broadcasting the game; you really couldn’t have gotten a better atmosphere for Friday night lights.”
Jonathan Sandoval again led the Patriors offenisvely with a county-leading 289 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries, Giuliano said.
“Jonathan Sandoval had another terrific game even with the defense stacked to stop the run on a very rainy night,” Giuliano said.
“The defense really stepped up and pitched a much-needed shutout. They were really disciplined against the option run game and were able to create timely turnovers and negative plays. Seniors Vincent Kim and Talmage Christensen both had great games and topped the defensive stats.”
Calvary Chapel (1-3) is also in action Thursday night, hosting Costa Mesa at 7:30 in the Orange Coast League opener at Segerstrom.
Eagles Coach Jack McInally could not be reached for comment about the game.
