PHOTOS: A Glimpse Into Hoag’s Upcoming $1.2B Sun Family Campus

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian will soon unveil its $1.2 billion expanded campus in Irvine come this September.

Named in honor of a $50 million gift from philanthropists David and Diana Sun, the Sun Family Campus has been taking shape on Sand Canyon Avenue and Alton Parkway for the past three years after breaking ground in 2023.

Last January, the couple made a second $50 million gift, bringing their total giving toward Hoag’s expansion to $100 million, naming the area encompassing the Sun Family Campus and adjacent Hoag Health Center Irvine – Sand Canyon the Sun Family Complex.

The campus will feature state-of-the-art buildings dedicated to cancer and digestive care, women’s health and advanced surgical procedures.

Hoag has released artist renderings and progress photos of the construction for the upcoming campus, offering an inside look before its projected opening this fall.

Another facility within the campus will be dedicated to women’s health. Among the amenities that will be featured in the Women’s Health Pavilion are a breast center, neonatal intensive care unit and a maternal mental health program (artist rendering).



The largest structure on the campus will be the 130,000-square-foot Surgical Pavilion, which will feature advanced robotic technology.



The Judith & Jan Kolar Wellness Park features open-air seating, shaded tables and walking paths for patients, visitors and staff.

Hoag’s design inspiration for its expanded campus was to create a “wellness village” blending indoor and outdoor elements by utilizing natural light and gardens.



Last August, Hoag officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Du Family Hospital Pavilion entrance, supported by a $25 million gift from Ben and Carmela Du who were in attendance at the ceremony.
