Ocean View School District (OVSD) will be hosting a demolition ceremony for Park View School on Friday, March 25 at 5:00 pm at 16666 Tunstall Lane in Huntington Beach. The K-8 school educated thousands of students between 1969- 1989. After the school closed in 1989, it was leased to the Huntington Beach Union High School District as an Adult Education and Independent Study School, but has been vacant since 2009. The District will tear down the school to provide the community with expanded green space adjacent to existing sports fields.
The event will feature local dignitaries, the presentation of items from a Park View School time capsule from 1969, former students and staff of Park View School, members of the Ocean View Little League and the OVSD Board of Trustees kicking off the demolition.
“We are delighted that this demolition will revitalize this neighborhood for our community. We are not selling the property to make way for more housing, instead we are going to provide additional open, green space for our residents to enjoy,” commented Gina Clayton-Tarvin, President of the OVSD Board of Trustees.
The initial phase of the demolition involving the safe removal of asbestos and other hazardous materials has already taken place and the rest of the demolition will take place in the coming weeks. Ledesma & Meyer Construction Company is overseeing the project.
