Orange County teams earn top seeds for inaugural CIF girls flag football playoffs

A number of Orange County high school teams are among the 144 entries and two earned top seeds for the inaugural CIF girls flag football playoffs.

Opening round games for Division 2 through 5 are Tuesday with the second round on Saturday. Opening round for Division 1 is on Saturday.

The championship finals will be conducted in a one-day, five-game extravaganza at
Fred Kelly Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 9, CIF officials said.

Top seeded teams are Orange Lutheran (Division 1), Long Beach Poly (Division 2), Linfield
Christian (Division 3), La Habra (Division 4) and California (Division 5).

All four seeds in Division 1 are from OC. Besides Orange Lutheran, Sunset League champion Newport Harbor is second, Sunset League runner-up Huntington Beach is third and Trinity League co-champion JSerra fourth.

Cypress, the co-Crestview League champion, is third in Division 3 and Woodbridge, the Pacific Coast League champion, is fourth in Division 2.

North Hills League champion Troy is second in Division 3, No. 3 Empire League entry Fullerton is second in Division 4 and Orange League champion Santiago third in Division 5.

Among the games Tuesday (5 p.m. starts):

—Woodbridge hosts Royal, Crestview League co-champion Crean Lutheran hosts El Modena, Cypress hosts El Toro and University is at Trabuco Hills in Division 2.

—Golden West League champion Segerstrom hosts Beckman, Troy hosts Mayfair and Westminster hosts San Dimas in Division 3.

—La Habra hosts Indio and Fullerton hosts West Ranch in Division 4.

—Rancho Alamitos hosts Kaiser and Santiago hosts Hawthorne in Division 5.
