IRVINE 3, UNIVERSITY 2: The Vaqueros won the opening game of the Pacific Coast League series Tuesday at Irvine.

“(We) won in walk off fashion,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota. “Both teams pitched very well and played solid defense.”

Irvine (7-5-1, 6-4) was led by Owen Featherston, who was 2 for 3 with a run scored; Zach Rodriguez, who was 2 for 3 with the game winning run scored and a walk;  Nate Valencia, who was 2 for 4 with a run scored; Evan Tamayo and Ryan Sellards who were both 1 for 3 with an RBI; and Josh Gutierrez who was 1 for 4 with the game-winning RBI.

Ethan Kim got the win, pitching six innings, allowing four hits. He struck out three and allowed two earned runs. Sullivan Spivey finished on the mound throwing one inning and allowing one hit.

University is 6-7 overall and 4-6 in the PCL. The teams play again Wednesday at University.

COSTA MESA 12, ESTANCIA 3: Will Clark, who pitched the first six innings, got the win in an Orange Coast League game. He allowed five hits, two earned runs and struck out four. Omar Gutierrez was 2 for 4 with three runs scored, Aiden Comte was 2 for 5 with a double and three RBI, Isaiah Mamiam was 1 for 2 with a double and three RBI and Owen Dever 2 for 4 to lead league-leading Costa Mesa (14-3, 7-0)

Miles Moyer, who pitched the first three innings allowing 10 runs (six earned) took the loss for Estancia (13-4, 5-2).

Cole Lefebvre was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a double; Riley Witte was 2 for 3 with a double; and John Uchytil was 1 for 3.

The teams play against Friday at Costa Mesa.

CORONA DEL MAR 15, VALLEY VIEW 4: The Sea Kings were led by Brady Andrews, who got the win on the mound. Chris Wheat had three hits and Dillon Lane, Nick Salman, Stevie Jones and Jackson McDonald, who all had two hits.

FULLERTON 4, TROY 0: Fullerton won the Freeway League opener Tuesday. Eddie Avitia threw a complete game allowing one hit and striking out five, lowering his ERA to 0.43. Carlos Barrios was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBI, Malachi Meni was 1 for 4 with two RBI and Zach Fany was 1 for 2 with two stolen bases.

TESORO 1, DANA HILLS 0: The Titans were led by pitcher Ryan Rios, who pitched seven innings, allowing no runs, one hit and 11 strikeouts. Owen Faust was 1 for 2 with a double, one run scored and a walk. Owen Faust was 1 for 2 with a double and a run scored.

VILLA PARK 15, RIVERTON 9: The Spartans won a game Tuesday in the Desert Classic. Nate Lewis was 3 for 5 with a run scored, two doubles and four RBI and Justin Tims 2 for 5 with four RBI to lead the Spartans offensively.
