Orange County baseball and softball teams advance in CIF So Cal regionals

After a busy week of CIF Southern Section playoffs, Orange County baseball and softball teams embark on bringing home So Cal regional championships.

Regionals begin at host sites on Tuesday, continue Thursday and wrap up Saturday with the regional championships. Northern California teams are also competing for Nor Cal titles. There are no state championships for baseball and softball.

Games are scheduled for 4 p.m. unless noted.

BASEBALL

DIVISION I: St. John Bosco is the top seed and hosts St. Augustine Tuesday. Villa Park is the No. 5 seed and plays at No. 4 Granite Hills (27-0-2) Tuesday. Villa Park lost to St. John Bosco in the CIF Division 1 quarterfinals.

With a win, Villa Park would play St. John Bosco in the second round if SJB also advances.

CIF Division 1 runner-up Santa Margarita is seeded No. 2 and hosts No. 7 Patrick Henry (21-10-2) Tuesday. Mater Dei is the No. 6 seed and plays No. 3 Crespi (24-3) Tuesday at Hartunian Park. Crespi is the home team.

DIVISION II: Fountain Valley is top seeded and will host Rancho Bernardo Tuesday at 4 p.m. With a victory, the Barons will play the winner of the Eastlake-Glendora game in the second round Thursday.

DIVISION IV: Division 6 champion Estancia is No. 3 seeded and faces Mary Star of the Sea (17-13) Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. The winner advances into the second round Thursday against the winner of No. 2 Ridgeview vs. No. 7 Notre Dame. The remaining highest seeded team gets the home game.

SOFTBALL

DIVISION I: CIF Division 1 runner-up El Modena is seeded No. 1 and has a first-round bye. The Vanguards will host the winner of the game between No. 4 Ayala and No. 5 Poway on Thursday at 4 p.m. CIF champion Norco opted out of the regional.

DIVISION III: CIF Division 6 champion University hosts No. 6 Marquez (24-3) Tuesday at 4 p.m. The winner meets No. 2 Woodlake Thursday at Woodlake. Woodlake (28-1) has a first round bye.
