The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) continues nightly closures on northbound and southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) at El Camino Real Bridge in the City of San Clemente. This will include all on-ramps and off-ramps connecting I-5 to El Camino Real. Friday and Saturday closures will be from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following mornings. Weekday closures from Sunday to Thursday nights will be from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following mornings.
Additional work will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the weekdays which may affect northbound I-5 El Camino Real on-ramp. Night work will continue mostly on northbound I-5 through this Saturday and Sunday to remove and replace approach slabs on the El Camino Bridge.
Please note that this work may involve saw cutting, which will cause loud noise.
The purpose of this project is to replace 18 slabs on El Camino Real Bridge, clean expansion joints, place joint seals, as well as working on maintenance of the abutments. This maintenance project is expected to last 60 days. Caltrans appreciates the public’s patience while we perform this work. Electronic Changeable Messages Signs will notify drivers of the closure. The work schedule is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.
