ANAHEIM, Calif. (April 22, 2023) – Anaheim police officers have arrested a man for a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision.
On Saturday, April 22, 2023, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Anaheim PD officers responded to the 700 block of N. East St. regarding a traffic collision. Placentia PD Officers advised a traffic collision involving a stolen vehicle had just occurred, and the driver fled the scene on foot. Upon Anaheim PD Officers’ arrival, they discovered the driver of the stolen vehicle had lost control and collided with several residential fences.
Officers also discovered the driver of the stolen vehicle struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a woman in her 40s, was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Officers from the Anaheim, Placentia, and Fullerton Police Departments set up a large perimeter and conducted an exhaustive search for the suspect. Despite an extensive search, Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Anaheim PD Traffic investigators responded to the scene to investigate the collision. The initial investigation revealed the driver of the stolen vehicle fled from a Placentia PD Officer and lost control of the stolen vehicle as he sped southbound on East St. Investigators determined Placentia PD Officers were not pursuing the stolen vehicle before the collision occurred.
At approximately 9:10 a.m., Anaheim PD Officers responded to a church on the 1400 block of E. La Palma Ave. regarding a suspicious subject. Upon Officers’ arrival, they contacted a man at the church and determined he was driving the stolen vehicle during the fatal collision.
Officers arrested the man and booked him into the Anaheim PD Detention Facility for several offenses, including vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, hit and run resulting in injury or death, driving under the influence causing bodily injury, auto theft, and possession of a stolen vehicle. Investigators are withholding the man’s identity at this time due to the ongoing investigation. The suspect’s identity will be released in the next few days.
