At the Orange County Historical Society January meeting, former Mission Viejo Mayor and Mission Viejo Heritage Committee member Robert Breton will share the history of the master-planned community he calls home.
Brenton will focus on the early rancho days, the formation of the Mission Viejo Company, its purchase of the land from the O’Neill family, the master planning process, the successful completion of the plan, the reasons for the city’s incorporation, and how the city grew to meet the goals that planners and early community leaders called “The California Promise.”
The presentation will include about two-hundred slides, amusing stories and anecdotes, and a fun pop quiz at the end. “Q & A” will follow. We hope you’ll join us for what should be an interesting and informative evening.
As mayor of Mission Viejo, Breton formed the City’s Heritage Committee and assisted Doris Walker in writing its first history book, Mission Viejo: The Ageless Land, from Prehistory to Present. He also produced a series of oral history interviews with Mission Viejo Co executives, which are available on the Library’s website.
Breton is currently at work on a new history of Mission Viejo, to be published soon.
Our program will be held Thursday, January 12th, at 7:30 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2400 N. Canal St., Orange. (Doors open at 7:00 pm.)
