Ocean View High School’s football team celebrated its first CIF playoff victory since 2011 and second in school history, defeating Bolsa Grande, 35-28 Friday night at Ocean View in the opening round of the CIF Division 14 playoffs.
“I am excited for the seniors who have provided unquestionable leadership all season long,” said Coach Daniel Hernandez. “It was a great feeling to win against a tough Bolsa Grande team at home. We faced some adversity as Bolsa Grande came out of the gate and scored early. Our players showed tremendous poise in how they responded.”
Ocean View (6-5) will host Bell Gardens (6-5) next Friday in quarterfinals.
William Pardue IV led Ocean View rushing for 217 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns. Jayden Trujillo had 128 yards on 21 carries and two rushing TDs.
“The offensive Line of Zack Wojtasek, Randy Leal, Elijah Armenta, Emmanuel Cantoran and Pedro Maldonado paved the way for 370 yards rushing on the night,” Hernandez said.
Quarterback Frankie Armenta completed 3 of 4 passes for 75 yards and had eight tackles on defense. Senior kicker Isis Salazar was 5 for 5 on point afters,
Bolsa Grande (6-5) was led by quarterback Ethan Nguyen who threw two touchdown passes and passed for 83 yards. He also rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown.
David Nguyen rushed for 110 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown.
Eddie Zarate had three catches and a TD and Marc Navarro two catches and a TD for the Matadors.
