WHY: Iranian siblings who immigrated after Islamic revolution, co-founded Innovent Systems, which was bought by Broadcom where they became star engineers. Then in 2016 co-founded Movandi, a wireless technology equipment maker looking to expand deployment of the 5G advances for indoor and outdoor use. Says company’s proprietary chipsets, antennas and software help overcome coverage gaps and reduce deployment costs by eliminating the need for fiber. Has raised nearly $70M by 2022. Now has six offices around the world.

IN THE NEWS: In February, Movandi partnered with Japan-based Kyocera to expand 5G millimeter wave (mmWave) coverage using its smart repeater technology. Three years ago, firm linked up with chipmaking giant Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) to expand deployment of the 5G advances for indoor and outdoor use.

NOTABLE: Maryam credited with 200+ patents while Reza has more than 480.

IN THEIR WORDS: “With our industry leading BeamXR semiconductor and system technology, we are committed to delivering the best and most comprehensive set of capabilities to power indoor and outdoor 5G mmWave networks.” — Maryam Rofougaran
