WHY: Co-founded Scour, a music search engine that was sold in 2000. In 2004, founded company to make medical billing easier for doctors and their staff. In 2022, raised $72M with a $1B valuation. Tebra was derived from “vertebrae” and symbolizes its “backbone role” in medical practices. Almost 1,000 employees companywide.

IN THE NEWS: Recognized in the Healthcare Technology Report’s list of Top 50 CEOs in Healthcare IT, E&Y as an Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist, Goldman Sachs as one of the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs, and the Software Report as a Top 50 SaaS CEO in the United States.

NOTABLE: Institutional investor in 2022 round was Newport Beach’s Toba Capital, the largest venture capital firm based in Orange County; it was begun by Vinny Smith, the CEO who engineered the $2.4B sale of Quest Software to Dell.
