OC high school basketball teams go for titles in tourney finals; Monday highlights

It’s a busy day ahead of high school basketball as Orange County boys and girls teams go for tournament championships on Monday, Dec. 30

TUSTIN CLASSIC

Newport Harbor’s boys basketball will face Edison Monday, Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Tustin in the final in the last of four games.

Schedule:

Laguna Hills vs. Live Oak, 3 p.m.

Mission Viejo vs. Grants Pass, 4:30 p.m.

Tesoro vs. Tustin, 6 p.m. (third place)

Edison vs. Newport Harbor, 7:30 p.m. (championship)

ORANGE HOLIDAY CLASSIC

Irvine, led by Cooper Stearns, meets El Toro in the boys championship game Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Orange. The Vaqueros are 15-2 overall, the Chargers 11-6.

The girls final is also an all-OC matchup with Laguna Hills facing Orange at 6 p.m.

MARINA TOURNAMENT

The high-flying Crean Lutheran girls basketball team (13-2) meets San Clemente (11-4) in the tournament final Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Marina High School.

OXFORD ACADEMY TOURNAMENT

Segerstrom (8-7) faces El Rancho in finals of the boys tournament Monday at 6 p.m. at Oxford Academy.

HOLIDAY CLASSIC

JSerra’s boys team faces Archbishop Riordan in the championship of the National Division Monday at 8:35 p.m. Cypress meets Francis Parker in the championship of the Governor’s Division Monday at 8:35 p.m.

MONDAY HIGHLIGHTS:

SANTA MARGARITA 78, CORONA CENTENNIAL 75: The Eagles finished The Classic at Damien going 3-1 to capture the Platinum Division title. Brayden Kyman had 25 points, eight rebounds and three steals to lead the Eagles. Drew Anderson had 19 points and eight rebounds, Kaiden Bailey 17 points and Dallas Washington 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks to lead the Eagles.

CREAN LUTHERAN 70, NORTHEAST 63: The Saints (5-8) notched a win in the Gold Division at the Damien Classic, led by Hunter Caplan, who had 19 points. Jacob Majok scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Nez Reynolds had 14 points and four rebounds and Caden Jones 13 points and five assists for Crean Lutheran.

GODINEZ 75, MAGNOLIA 30: The Grizzlies wrapped up the Oxford Academy Tournament with a win Monday. Jaiden Torres scored 14 points, Damien Braun and Marcus Poserio each had 12 points and Rafael Huizar scored 11 points to lead the Grizzles.
