PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE TOURNEY

Woodbridge 54, Portola 46: The Warriors finished strong to hold off a challenge against Portola Wednesday night at Woodbridge. Woodbridge moves on to face Northwood Thursday night at 7 at Northwood.

JC Schindler had 20 points, Stephen Lamp 14 points and Jaiden Sabino 13 points to lead Woodbridge (16-9, 5-3). Portola (7-19, 3-5) was led by Krishna Gade, who had 18 points. Brady Kim added 10 points for the Bulldogs, who play University Thursday at 7 at Portola.

Northwood 88, University 45: Northwood forced seven turnovers in the third quarter and outscored University 25-3 to break open a close game at halftime and win at home in the first round of the PCL tourney. It was also senior night for Northwood (20-6, 7-1).

Northwood was led by Sidd Raj who had 17 points and five 3-pointers off the bench and Zaid Yunis, who had 16 points. Justin Liu and Sam Alegre each scored 10 points off the bench.

University (7-18, 1-7) was led by Shervin Moarrefian who had 15 points and four 3-pointers. Christian DeBarge had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists and Andrew Bogard eight points and eight rebounds for the Trojans.

Northwood hosts Woodbridge and University plays at Portola Thursday in the second round.

Beckman 59, Irvine 48: Cooper Stearns had 16 points, 13 rebounds and five assists to lead Irvine.

Sage Hill 61, Laguna Hills 44

Second round schedule for Thursday, Feb. 1:

Beckman at Sage Hill, Woodbridge at Northwood, Laguna Hills at Irvine and University at Portola, all at 7 p.m. Tournament wraps up Friday, Feb. 2 with four games at Portola. Championship game 7:30 p.m.

SAN JOAQUIN LEAGUE

Pacifica Christian 60, Orangewood Academy 47: Pacifica Christian clinched its second straight league title. Logan Stewart scored 16 points with seven rebounds, Michael Noel 16 points, EJ Spillman 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists and Alex Stewart eight points and eight rebounds for the Tritons.

ORANGE COAST LEAGUE

Calvary Chapel 72, Saddleback 43: The Eagles wrapped up the regular season with a victory. Jordan Embry led Calvary Chapel with 18 points, Brannon Berry had 12 points. Chris Trotter led Saddleback with 22 points.

Estancia 61, Santa Ana 48

Costa Mesa 50, Orange 49: The Mustangs (16-12, 10-2) clinched the outright league title with the victory.

SOUTH COAST LEAGUE

Tesoro 47, San Clemente 44: Christian Fernandez had 21 points, Porter Hansen 11 points and Broderick Redden eight points for South Coast League champion San Clemente (22-5, 7-0).

Tarbut V’ Torah 73, Webb School 39: Tarbut V’Torah won its final league game defeating The Webb School on senior night.  Yonah Light led a balanced attack with 21 points and 12 rebounds, Ari Varon added 16 points, Jake Goblentz-Brown had 13 points and nine rebounds and Issac Joelson 10 points.

The win puts TVT up against Newport Christian Thursday at  3:30 p.m. in a league playoff game for a guaranteed berth in the CIF playoffs.

GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE

Rancho Alamitos 53, Bolsa Grande 39: The Vaqueros (17-11, 6-3) clinched a CIF playoff berth with the win, according to Coach Anh Than. Rancho Alamitos was led by Henry Phan, Luis Rico and Inoke Malo who each had 15 points. Rico had three 3-pointers and Malo 12 rebounds. Rancho Alamitos wraps up league play Thursday at 6 p.m. vs. Loara.

TUESDAY, JAN. 30

Boys basketball

EMPIRE LEAGUE

Crean Lutheran 69, Cypress 52: Crean Lutheran (15-12, 8-1) avenged a first round loss to Cypress with a win Tuesday at Cypress. Crean Lutheran and Cypress are tied for first place in the Empire League going into Thursday’s final games. Crean Lutheran hosts Tustin and Cypress plays at Pacifica Thursday at 6:15 p.m.

If both teams win, they would be declared league champions. Crean Lutheran will be in Division 1 and Cypress 2A for the playoffs that begin next week. Cypress is ranked third in its division this week.

Tustin 47, Valencia 44: Carson Jue scored 10 points and had six rebounds to lead Tustin (17-10, 6-3). Johnny Sagarino and Taven Epps had 10 points each. Epps also had 12 rebounds. Valencia (10-17, 1-8) was led by Aidan Tom, who had 13 points and Phillip Nguyen, who had nine points).

Tustin plays at Crean Lutheran Thursday at 6:15 p.m. in its final league game of the season and final game in the Empire League. Valencia hosts Kennedy, also at 6:15 p.m.

GOLDEN WEST LEAGUE

Segerstrom 79, Westminster 67: The Jaguars were led by Gilbert Vargas, who had 25 points and Christopher Arteaga, who had 19 points. The Jaguars (9-17, 5-4) clinched a CIF playoff berth with the win, according to Coach Eddie Andrade. Segerstrom wraps up league play Thursday night at 6:30 hosting Katella on senior night.

Godinez 58, Katella 32: The Grizzlies, who had already clinched a share of the league title, earned the outright crown with the win. Jaiden Torres led Segerstrom with 17 points. Israel Moreno had 11 points. Godinez (21-6, 9-0) wraps up league play Thursday night at Garden Grove.

TRINITY LEAGUE

JSerra 49, Santa Margarita 32: Aidan Fowler scored 12 points, Godschoice Eboigbodin 11 points and Sebastian Rancik 10 points to lead JSerra (23-4, 6-3). JSerra hosts Servite Thursday night.

Cameron McNamee scored 12 points with six rebounds and Brayden Kyman eight points to lead Santa Margarita. The Eagles will have their senior night Thursday vs. Mater Dei.

Mater Dei 72, St. John Bosco 66: The Monarchs (25-2 8-1) clinched a share of the league title with a win Tuesday at home. Luke Barnett had 21 points and six 3-pointers and Blake Davidson and Owen Verna had 13 points each. Brandon Benjamin had nine points and Brady Karcich nine assists. Mater Dei plays at Santa Margarita Thursday night.

Girls basketball

PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE

Portola 72, Northwood 34: Nina Saki had a school record 42 points including 11 3-pointers, which ties a school record to lead Portola (21-5, 3-2). Kira Watanabe added 11 points. Northwood was led by Malia Feeko with 10 points.

University 38, Laguna Hills 30: Asha Highsmith had 12 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and two assists to lead University (10-16, 2-3). Samar Shami scored 10 points adding three rebounds and four steals. Ai Miyano contributed seven points, seven steals, four rebounds and three assists. It was senior night for Laguna Hills (7-18, 0-5). Addi Olsen scored 12 points and Cameron McDermott nine points for the Hawks.

NORTH HILLS LEAGUE

Canyon 61, El Modena 15: Canyon was led by Justine Prajitno, who had 19 points and Mariah Streeter, who had 14 points.
