OC baseball highlights for Friday, April 12 including a no-hitter for Crean Lutheran

CREAN LUTHERAN 3, VALENCIA 0: Crean Lutheran pitchers Joe Rhinehart and Jake Mercurio teamed up on a no-hitter Friday in the Saints Empire League win. Rhinehart pitched five innings, striking out 10 while Mercurio threw two innings striking out six, according to Crean Lutheran Coach Jake Haney.

Harrison Stiles had a solo home run for the Saints (13-9, 3-3). Crean Lutheran moved into third place in league with the win. The Saints host Cypress Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. and then play at Cypress Friday.

Crean Lutheran defeated Valencia 9-1 in the opener of the series Wednesday.

MISSION VIEJO 2, DANA HILLS 0 (11 innings): Keenan Anzai pitched eight innings allowing no runs and three hits while striking out six and was also 2 for 4 with a walk and an RBI in a South Coast League game Friday. Tyler Holland pitched three innings, allowing no runs, two hits and struck out three and was also 1 for 2 with three walks. Jacob Powley was 2 for 4 with a walk and a run scored for the Diablos (12-9, 4-2).

WOODBRIDGE 5, IRVINE 1: Woodbridge completed a three-game Pacific Coast League series sweep over Irvine with a win Friday. Vincent DeMarco pitched the first 5 2/3 innings allowing one hit and one run. He struck out 10 and walked five. His older brother Anthony DeMarco finished on the mound by pitching 1 1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked one. Anthony DeMarco started the game as the Warriors’ catcher.

Nolan Stottlemyer was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, Nevan Namgoong was 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI and Henry Uhrik was 1 for 2 with two RBI to lead Woodbridge offensively. Smith Spivey had the only hit for Irvine, which had three errors. Owen Featherston scored the run for the Vaqueros (9-11-1, 7-8).

Woodbridge (14-7, 10-5) is in third place in the league while Irvine is in fourth place. Four teams from the league advance to the CIF playoffs.

Woodbridge plays Beckman and Irvine meets Portola in three-game PCL series next week.

TESORO 3, TRABUCO HILLS 2: Brandon McKindley pitched five innings, striking out five. Eli Martin had two sacrifice bunts, Aidan Nieto was 1 for 2 with a walk and Tanner Tobias 3 for 4 to lead Tesoro (14-7, 6-) in the South Coast League game.

VILLA PARK 1, EL MODENA 0: The Spartans (14-9, 3-2) were led by Justin Tims, who had a solo home run in the Crestview League game.

FULLERTON 7, SONORA 6: The Indians won a Freeway League game to stay atop the league standings. Malachi Meni was 2 for 4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored; Miguel Velasquez was 1 for 2 with two RBI and Zach Fany was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and two walks. Jared Dibble pitched 1 2/3 innings to get the win allowing one hit. Fullerton (16-7-1, 5-1) leads the league while Buena Park (17-4, 4-2) is in second place.
