If we cast our eyes on the New Zealand business scene, what are some of the success stories that could give California entrepreneurs a fresh outlook?
The Continuation of Global Success Stories
It’s possible to be inspired by global success stories that we can now see being repeated in New Zealand and elsewhere. The online casino industry has had success lately as an example of a strong business in this area. This site offers a collection of gambling games such as slots and table games including roulette and blackjack. It’s adapted to the local market by offering games that appeal to New Zealanders as well as accepting locally used payment methods like Skrill, PayPal, and Visa.
Some of the big multi-national fast food chains and coffee shops have made their mark here, although getting established isn’t always easy. Starbucks and Burger King are both trying to get a foothold in Tirau, on the North Island, but need to convince locals that they won’t have an adverse effect on the historic town. In California, business owners often have to overcome similar challenges to introduce ideas that have worked elsewhere but aren’t yet available locally.
Ideas That Have Worked Well in NZ
The next example from NZ shows how a vibrant Californian theme has been successfully introduced. Golden State Coffee is run by Claudia Hurford, who imported a 1970s Chevrolet van from California to offer their customers an authentic taste of the Golden State. Basing the business around this theme has proved to be a success, encouraging them to now sell merchandise like tumblers and t-shirts, as well as their coffee.
This idea could prove inspiring the other way around, with California businesses taking instantly recognizable elements of NZ culture to create an eye-catching business. New Zealand is best known for its natural attractions, Maori culture, and traditional industries like sheep farming. The success of movies like Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit which were filmed here has opened up new tourism opportunities and given new business ideas that could work elsewhere.
The 2024 Deloitte Fast 50 index lists the fastest growing NZ companies, with Halter taking first place following a year of outstanding 1539% growth as their virtual animal collars reached new markets. Other names at the top of this list include OLT, Franklin Hospital, Fortis Travel and Events, and Pact Steel. With so many diverse sectors represented, this is a great place to see several varied ideas that have all been successfully implemented in the last year.
These success stories let us see how New Zealand’s entrepreneurs have surged ahead thanks to new and existing ideas that have been adapted to the local market. If you’re looking for business ideas that might work well in California, it’s a question of being inspired by their creativity and thought process, rather than copying the same ideas.
