NORTHWOOD 4, LAGUNA HILLS 0: Pacific Coast League leader Northwood (10-3-1, 9-2-1) completed a three-game sweep of Laguna Hills with a victory Thursday at Laguna Hills. Paul Grossman got the victory, pitching the first six innings allowing just one hit. Grossman struck out six and did not walk a batter. Spencer Collins-Williams pitched the final inning, retiring the Hawks in order.
Grossman was also 2 for 3 at the plate with three RBI, Jordan Kim was 3 for 4 with two runs scored, Luke Hansen had an RBI and Carter Liu and Rylan Littlejohn each had a hit for Northwood which had eight hits on the way to its fourth victory in a row.
Hayden Yoast had the only hit for Laguna Hills (6-9, 4-8).
WOODBRIDGE 9, PORTOLA 4: The Warriors (10-5, 7-5) were led by Jake Haruki who had four RBI, two hits, a triple and a stolen base. Skyler Miura had a double and two RBI, Anthony DeMarco had a double and an RBI and Dylan Mutuc two hits for Woodbridge, which is in third place in the Pacific Coast League after winning the PCL series. Vince DeMarco got the win on the mound, improving his record to 5-1.
FULLERTON 8, TROY 1: The Indians (12-5-1, 2-0) captured a Freeway League victory Thursday. Miguel Velasquez was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBI, Malachi Meni was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and a stolen base, Zach Fany was 1 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base and Carlos Barrios 2 for 4.
The two teams meet again Friday night at 6:30 in the Halo Classic at Angel Stadium. The game will be a non-league game and not part of the Freeway League schedule.
VILLA PARK 2, CYPRESS 1: Jacob Sandoval had a walk-off double for the Spartans in the Desert Classic Thursday. Shawn Romero was 3 for 3 with a run scored, a home run and an RBI. Luke Wobrock earned the victory in relief for Villa Park (11-7).
RYAN LEMMON TOURNEY UPDATE
The annual Ryan Lemmon Tournament was supposed to start Saturday at the Great Park with 36 teams, but because of the expected rain coming Saturday, all games Saturday have been called off, tournament director Dick Owens said.
The tournament is scheduled to now start on Monday, subject to weather and field conditions, and run through Wednesday. Owens said he was working on possible adjustments. Rain is also possible Sunday.
