Northwood, Woodbridge, Estancia and Costa Mesa capture Thursday victories

NORTHWOOD 3, BECKMAN 2: The Timberwolves won their second straight Pacific Coast League game over the Patriots and captured two of three games in the season series. Second place Northwood is 6-2 overall and 5-1 in league behind first place Woodbridge, which has played one more game than the rest of the teams in the league.

Paul Grossman was the winning pitcher, allowing one run. Casey Euper, the son of Coach Doug Euper, got the save. He pitched three innings and allowed one run and struck out the side with the tying run on second base and no outs in the seventh inning.

Andres Hernandez was 1 for 2 with two RBI and Joe Harper was 1 for 2 with a run scored and drove in the winning run.

“Incredible play by Eugene Miyata in center to save two runs in the bottom of the sixth, saved the game for the the T’Wolves,” said Doug Euper.

WOODBRIDGE 5, UNIVERSITY 2: The Warriors (8-2, 6-1) remained atop the Pacific Coast League completing a series sweep over the Trojans at University. Jake Amundson pitched the first six innings, lowering his ERA to 1.40. He allowed four hits and struck out three. Brandon Abernathy got the save, retiring University in order in the seventh inning.

Offensively, Amundson was 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBI, Abernathy was 2 for 4 with double and two runs scored and Anthony DeMarco 1 for 4 with a double, run scored and an RBI.

Michael Dougherty was 1 for 3 with an RBI for University (5-3-1, 2-3-1). Cooper Berger pitched the first six innings and Logan Rome the seventh.

ESTANCIA 19, ST. MARGARET’S 0: Andrew Mits (4-1) got the victory and a five-inning no-hitter in an Orange Coast League game Thursday. He walked four and struck out five. The game was called after five innings.

Cole Lefebvre was 5 for 5 with four runs scored, three RBI and two doubles. John Uchytil was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBI, Mits was 3 for 5 with two runs scored, three RBI and two doubles, Gabe Avila was 2 for 3 with a run scored, two RBI and a double and Jake Humphries was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBI.

COSTA MESA 12, SANTA ANA 6: The Mustangs captured an Orange Coast League victory Thursday at Costa Mesa. Troy Simmonds was the winning pitcher. In four innings, he allowed no runs and no hits and struck out seven. Wylan Rottschafer was 2 for 3 with four runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base, Sam Stute was 2 for 4 with two runs sored, a triple and two RBI and Michael Joyce was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a three RBI.

Costa Mesa (10-0, 2-0) scored eight runs in the sixth inning to battle back from a 6-4 deficit and take the two-game series over Santa Ana (2-5, 0-2).
