This June marks 30 years since the brutal murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
Their tragic deaths in front of her Brentwood, California, home rocked the nation.
Her ex-husband, NFL Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson, took over the spotlight when he was arrested and charged with the murders. He was later acquitted on all the charges in what has been called the “Trial of the Century.” He later was found liable for the deaths and ordered to pay $33.5 million to the victims’ family members in a civil suit.
Now, Lifetime is releasing a new documentary called “The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson,” which puts the focus back on her.
The network dropped the trailer on Thursday morning.
“It’s been 30 years, maybe it’s time to rekindle the flame of Nicole,” a loved one is heard saying as photos of her flash on the screen from adulthood, the gruesome crime scene and childhood.
“I think it’s important people get to know my sister, our sister,” one of her sisters says.
“She was my best friend and the one thing I could not protect her from was the monster she was married to,” Denise Brown told the camera as her eyes welled up with tears.
The over-four-minute trailer then transitions to a happier time between Nicole and O.J. before showing police photos of the injuries she said she sustained from abuse by the USC Heisman Trophy winner, the bloody Southern California crime scene, the infamous trial and then her children.
“It wasn’t about Nicole, it wasn’t about Ron. It was about who could win. Who played the best game?” Denise remarked about the trial.
It comes just weeks after the death of O.J. Simpson, who died in April after a battle with cancer.
Lifetime talked to over 50 people about Nicole for the documentary, which includes her friends Kris Jenner and Faye Resnick. Jenner’s ex-husband, Robert Kardashian was a part of Simpson’s “Dream Team” of legal representation during the trial.
“The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson” will be in two parts and will air on June 1 and 2.
