Championship games for the Mustang 10-and-under and Bronco 12-and-under tournaments scheduled for Monday, July 11 at Hicks Canyon Park in Irvine were instead played on Sunday, July 10, according to Irvine Pony President JD Hardin.

Irvine Pony hosted the two tournaments that started Thursday and officially wrapped up Sunday.

Since the three teams remaining in each division had already locked up berths in next weekend’s super regionals in Jurupa Valley, coaches agreed to wrap up the tournament a day early.

Two of the teams from the South Bay area would have had to make another trip to Irvine.

“Both Bronco and Pony opted to wrap up today in lieu of returning to Irvine on Monday,” Hardin said late Sunday. “Given that all parties had advanced already in both divisions, they used the undefeated games on Sunday at 11 a.m. as the defacto championship games with the following 2 p.m. games as the deciding second/third place games. So we’re all wrapped up and the teams (top three in each division) are on the way to Super Regionals.”

In the Mustang Division, Olive finished first, Placentia second and Torrance third.

In the Bronco Division, South Bay was first, Placentia second and Irvine third.
