Segerstrom Center for the Arts invites you to enjoy some free family fun this summer with the return of Movie Mondays on the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza. Five films inspired by the upcoming 23/24 Broadway series shows will play on Monday nights in the summer. The lineup includes The Lion King on July 10, Clue on July 17, How the Grinch Stole Christmas on July 24, Peter Pan on July 31, and Aladdin on August 7.

One of Segerstrom Center’s most fun summer offerings for over 15 years has been our wildly popular Movie Mondays series. Held outside on Monday evenings throughout the summer, these free movies under the stars have been pleasing our patrons since 2007

Guests are welcome to arrive at 5:30 pm, with the movie starting at dusk (approximately 8 p.m.). Pre-show activities are available from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. Guests may bring their own snacks, chairs, blankets, or picnics, but tables, BBQs or large food set-ups will not be permitted. Seating will be first-come-first-served. George’s Café will be open and additional food trucks will be on site for food purchases. No outside alcohol is permitted; however, alcohol will be available for purchase at George’s Café for those of age 21+.

Closed captioning will be included at all showings!

July 10 – The Lion King

MOVIE: THE LION KING (1994)

RATING: G

RUNTIME : 87 MINUTES

The Disney animated feature follows the adventures of the young lion    Simba (Jonathan Taylor Thomas), the heir of his father, Mufasa (James Earl Jones). Simba’s wicked uncle, Car (Jeremy Irons), plots to usurp Mufasa’s throne by luring father and son into a stampede of wildebeests. But Simba escapes, and only Mufasa is killed. Simba returns as an adult (Matthew Broderick) to take back his homeland from Scar with the help of his friends Timon (Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella).

July 17 – Clue

      MOVIE: CLUE (1985)

RATING: PG

RUNTIME : 94 MINUTES

In this murderously funny movie, the whodunit board game comes to life as guests are invited to a swanky mansion to learn who is blackmailing them. Was it Colonel Mustard in the study with a gun? Miss Scarlet in the billiard room with the rope? Or was it Wadsworth the butler? Meet all the notorious suspects and discover all their foul play things. You’ll love their dastardly doings as the bodies and laughs pile up before your eyes.

July 24 – How the Grinch Stole Christmas

    MOVIE: HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS

RATING: PG

RUNTIME: 105 MINUTES

In this live-action adaptation of the beloved children’s tale by Dr. Seuss, the reclusive green Grinch (Jim Carrey) decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Reluctantly joined by the hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday-related from the Whos. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen).

 

July 31 – Peter Pan

MOVIE: PETER PAN (2003)

RATING: PG

RUNTIME: 113 MINUTES

As Wendy Darling (Rachel Hurd-Wood) recounts stories to her brothers, John (Harry Newell) and Michael (Freddie Popplewell), she is visited by Peter Pan (Jeremy Sumpter). Peter, a boy who magically never ages, invites Wendy and her brothers to Neverland, an island where he lives with the Lost Boys. Once there, however, Wendy and her brothers are kidnapped by Captain Hook (Jason Isaacs). Peter, with assistance from the fairy Tink (Ludivine Sagnier), must face Hook in order to rescue the Darlings.

August 7 – Aladdin

MOVIE: ALADDIN (2019)

RATING: PG

RUNTIME: 128 MINUTES

 

Aladdin (Mena Massoud) is a lovable street urchin who meets Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott), the beautiful daughter of the sultan of Agrabah. While visiting her exotic palace, Aladdin stumbles upon a magic oil lamp that unleashes a powerful, wisecracking, larger-than-life genie (Will Smith). As Aladdin and the genie start to become friends, they must soon embark on a dangerous mission to stop the evil sorcerer, Jafar (Marwan Kenzari), from overthrowing young Jasmine’s kingdom.
