Moulton Niguel Water District has taken home the “Triple Crown” for excellence in financial reporting and budget presentation from the country’s leading association of government finance experts.
Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Triple Crown recognizes governmental entities that have received GFOA’s three highest awards for excellence in government finance:
- Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
- Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
- Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award
The awards recognize excellence in financial reporting and budget presentation for the Fiscal Year ended June 30, 2022, and honor agencies that abide by the “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate their financial story to the public.
“Moulton Niguel is committed to financial excellence, responsible long-term planning, and full transparency in our budget process,” said Board President Duane D. Cave, who has more than four decades of experience in the utility industry. “We are proud to abide by the highest governmental accounting and financial reporting standards.”
The Government Finance Officers Association, which includes more than 21,000 government finance professionals, advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for government agencies in Canada and the United States.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award recognizes public agencies that meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.
The Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award honors agencies that summarize financial information in a format that is accessible and understandable to residents, businesses, community groups, and other interested parties without a background in public finance.
“Every year, our exceptional finance team meticulously follows the rigorous standards set by the Government Finance Officers Association,” said Joone Kim-Lopez, Moulton Niguel’s General Manager.
In addition to recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association, Moulton Niguel has received recognition from the world’s two leading credit ratings agencies, Fitch Ratings and S&P Global Ratings. Both agencies continue to rate Moulton Niguel with AAA-credit, the highest possible credit rating.
