Monday evening storm update: weathering storm, no major issues, more rain ahead

Monday has seen street flooding, a power outage now restored, traffic accidents across the city and muddy runoff along Santa Ana Canyon Road in east Anaheim.

City crews remain on duty to address any issues.

We have seen about 2.8 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. That’s about a quarter of what Anaheim typically sees in a year.

While challenging, Anaheim has been spared the worst impacts, which are north of us in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

There is still more rain ahead. But forecasts are improving. 

Monday night into Tuesday calls for rain at 90 percent to 100 percent.

Rain chances start dipping into the 70s and 80s throughout Tuesday, tapering more into Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Finally, by midday Wednesday, we could see rain stop with cloudy skies.

Continue to plan for rain around your home, work or on outings.

Anaheim sandbag stations and bags are available to residents and businesses.

Our Public Works yard has free bags and sand to fill bags. The yard is at 400 E. Vermont St. and is open Monday-Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can get empty bags at any Anaheim Fire & Rescue station.

If there’s no answer, crews are out serving our community. Anaheim Fire & Rescue teams are ready for water rescues and debris flows and are dealing with more traffic accidents. 

With empty bags, use soil from your yard to fill the bags, returning the soil later.

Or visit home improvement stores to buy sandbags.

Street sweeping for Tuesday routes is canceled.

Waste pickup continues as scheduled. 

Place bins a foot or more from the curb to allow water flow.
