On July 30, 2022, at approximately 10:10 p.m., officers responded to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and River Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a female adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a female pedestrian down in the roadway who had been struck by a vehicle. Officers rendered aid until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department personnel who subsequently transported the pedestrian to a local hospital where she was listed in critical condition.
Through their preliminary investigation, detectives determined a 2005 Dodge Durango, driven by a male adult resident of the City of Compton, was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway at River Avenue. The pedestrian was walking southbound on Pacific Coast Highway and was struck by the vehicle as she was crossing the road, outside of a crosswalk. The driver of the Durango immediately stopped, rendered aid to the pedestrian, remained at the scene, and cooperated with the investigation. At this time, neither speed, impaired nor distracted driving, appear to be a factor in this collision.
On Aug. 3, 2022, detectives were notified that the pedestrian had succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. At this time, the identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending the notification to the next of kin, which will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.
