On April 24, 2022 at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers responded to the area of Studebaker Road and Loynes Drive regarding an injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located the driver of a motorcycle surrounded by several good Samaritans who rendered aid until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived. Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and determined the driver deceased.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1993 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by an adult male, was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Studebaker Road approaching Loynes Drive—when he lost control of the motorcycle. The driver struck the center median and then collided into the concrete barrier over a portion of the Los Cerritos Channel. There were no other vehicles involved in this collision. The driver had a valid California driver’s license with an M1 endorsement.
The driver has been identified as Jeremy Chavez, a 32-year-old resident of the City of Los Alamitos.
Distracted driving and driving under the influence are still under investigation as possible causes of this collision.
