Long Beach Police investigating traffic fatality at East 7th Street and West Campus Drive

On Aug. 22, 2022, at approximately 1:41 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a pedestrian walking in lanes of traffic at East 7th Street and Campus Drive, which resulted in the death of a female adult.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unconscious female pedestrian on the roadway suffering from critical injuries as a result of a traffic collision. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and determined the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by a male adult resident of Long Beach, was traveling eastbound on 7th Street near West Campus Drive when it struck a female adult pedestrian. At the time of the collision, the pedestrian was walking east on 7th street in the eastbound lanes of traffic.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. At this time neither alcohol, drugs, nor distracted driving is believed to be a factor in the collision.

At this time, the decedent’s identity is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin, which will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
