On March 29, 2022 at approximately 8:07 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Rose Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers found a 2019 Jeep which had struck a pedestrian. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed the 2019 Jeep, being driven by a male resident of Long Beach, was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway, west of Rose Avenue, when the pedestrian was crossing northbound in lanes of traffic, outside of a crosswalk. The driver of the 2019 Jeep was unable to stop or avoid striking the pedestrian.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Distracted driving, impaired driving and speed were not believed to be a factor at the time of the collision.
The identification of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
