On Feb. 4, 2023 at approximately 2:35 p.m., officers responded to reports of an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of Spring Street and Palo Verde Avenue, which resulted in the death of a female adult.
Upon arrival, officers determined four parked vehicles and two pedestrians had been struck by a 2007 Lincoln Continental in the parking lot of in the 6400 block of E. Spring Street. Officers located the Lincoln across the street in front of the 2900 block of Palo Verde Avenue where it collided into a tree. The driver of the Lincoln was trapped inside the vehicle. The Long Beach Fire Department extricated the driver and transported her to a local hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed the Lincoln, which was being driven by a 90-year-old female resident of Long Beach, drove through the parking lot at a high rate of speed striking four parked vehicles. A 68-year-old male pedestrian and a 10-year-old male pedestrian were both struck by parked vehicles that had been hit by the Lincoln. The Lincoln continued at a high rate of speed out of the parking lot and collided into a tree in front of the 2900 block of Palo Verde Avenue.
The 68-year-old pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The 10- year-old pedestrian suffered minor injuries and was released to his parents who were on scene and witnessed the collision.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will work to determine the decedent’s identity and notify the next of kin.
