Assemblyman Tri Ta Provides a Statement on the Monterey Park Tragedy

“I am heartbroken to learn of this senseless loss of life at what should have been a celebration of Lunar New Year in Monterey Park. I send my most sincere condolences, and am praying for the victims and their families.”

Statement by Supervisor Sarmiento Regarding the Tragic Shooting in Monterey Park

“I want to send heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families of the tragic incident that occurred in Monterey Park, California.

As an Orange County Supervisor, my District is the proud home to a large Vietnamese, and AAPI community. In fact, last night I was joined by many other local public servants at several Lunar New Year events in some of Santa Ana’s most beautiful Vietnamese Buddhist temples. My office has reached out to our Sheriff’s department to request increased protections around celebration sites to ensure the safety of our AAPI community.

This heinous crime was especially unsettling because it occurred at a time when our community should be celebrating with friends and family and contemplating the hope and promise of an upcoming year.

We must unite and speak out together about acts of gun violence and hate that plague our society so that we can protect our basic freedoms to live freely, celebrate and enjoy life without fear.”

Leader Jones, Chairwoman Nguyen’s Joint Statement on Lunar New Year Mass Shooting in Monterey Park

Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones (R-San Diego) and Senate Minority Caucus Chairwoman Janet Nguyen (R-Huntington Beach) issued the following statement:

“In what should have been a weekend filled with smiles and laughter for the Lunar New Year, we are now mourning a senseless tragedy.

“The California Senate Republican Caucus is praying for the families, victims, and our community. We are grateful to the swift action by first responders. We thank the multiple law enforcement agencies working to bring justice for the families.

“We remain committed to bolstering mental health services and working with our colleagues across the aisle on solutions to prevent future tragedies.”
