LBPD investigating traffic fatality at Orange Avenue and Smith Place

On Dec. 9, 2022, at approximately 12:56 a.m. officers responded to the area of Orange Avenue and Smith Place, regarding an injury traffic collision, which resulted in the death of a female adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a 2014 Nissan that had struck parked unoccupied vehicles. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene, rendered aid, and transported the driver to a local hospital for further treatment.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the Nissan driver was traveling southbound on Orange Avenue north of Smith Place, when she crossed into northbound lane of traffic and collided into parked vehicles.

While the investigation remains ongoing, at this time detectives believe speed to be a factor in the collision.

On Dec. 13, 2022, detectives from the Collision Investigation Detail were notified that the driver had succumbed to her injuries.

The identification of the decedent is being withheld pending the notification to the next of kin which will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
