Lanhee Chen, candidate for California State Controller, issued the following statement:
“While more votes remain to be counted in the race for California State Controller, it has become clear that I will not be able to win this election.
And so, today, I reached out to Malia Cohen to congratulate her for being elected California’s next Controller. I wish her and her family the best as she takes office in January.
While our campaign was not successful, I am filled with gratitude for my wife, kids and family, whose steadfast support made my candidacy possible; the millions of Californians who entrusted me with their vote; the volunteers who devoted their time and energy to our efforts; and the donors who contributed their resources to ensure we could communicate our message across the entire state.
We are fortunate to live in California, a place of hopefulness and aspiration for so many. Our campaign was about improving governance in our state but also working to create a place that our kids and grandkids will want to call home. Unfortunately, in too many ways, California continues to fall short of its enormous potential. The hard work of creating a better state goes on. And I look forward to continuing to dedicate my time and energy to this important work.”
