On August 1, candidate for California State Controller Lanhee Chen sent his opponent, Malia Cohen, a letter calling on her to join him for at least three debates across California between now and Election Day on November 8. The full text of the letter Chen sent to Cohen appears below.
Dear Board Member Cohen,
California’s voters deserve to hear from us directly about our backgrounds and positions on key issues relevant to the race for State Controller.
I invite you to join me for at least three debates across our state between now and Election Day, so voters can hear the details about our plans for the Controller’s Office and decide who is best suited to serve in this role.
My staff is happy to work with yours to develop the details and formats of these debates. A number of journalists and major media outlets have expressed interest in participating or hosting these debates, so I am hopeful that as many Californians as possible will have the opportunity to hear directly from us.
I look forward to your response. California’s voters should have access to an honest and transparent airing of our records and plans for this critical statewide post. I hope you will agree with me that these debates provide just that opportunity.
Sincerely yours,
Lanhee J. Chen, Candidate for State Controller
