There’s a saying that reality can be stranger than fiction. Five years after leaving KROQ in the worst possible way, we have major news on the life of Kevin Ryder.
It was anticipated that Ryder would be returning to the iconic World Famous KROQ one day. Well, today one day arrived. The rumors had been circulating for a minute and with an April 1st post that we all thought it was an April Fools prank, the radio Gods gave us their decision.
It turns out that this morning on the Klein Alley show the stations management made it official, Ryder is back.
Ryer along with former co-cost Gene “Bean” Baxter are Hall of Fame Broadcasters. Truthfully, the impact he has had on the radio landscape is immeasurable.
The characters over the decades that have been behind the mic at the station have been a big-big part of our collective lives. It is very welcome news to so many that love this iconic station.
Ryder will fill the drive time slot from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.. The current slot is held by the extremely popular Megan Holiday. She will move to nights to make room for Ryder.
With the radio wars being what they are, KROQ is reemerging to be the station to listen to in SoCal thanks to the return of Kevin Weatherly. Since his return, the station has turned its fortune and once again earned the title of The World Famous KROQ. A big step in regaining the foothold of an industry powerhouse is righting a wrong that was a monkey on the station’s back. The monkey has been lifted.
With a great lineup from top to bottom, there are lots of good things happening here. Earlier today Kevin Klein said what we were all thinking, “Kevin Ryder is back, like the good Lord intended.”
