Actor Kevin Costner officially confirmed speculation about his future with “Yellowstone.”
On Thursday he revealed what’s next for him as John Dutton in a post to Instagram.
“I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on ‘Horizon’ and doing all the things that’s required and thinking about ‘Yellowstone,’ that beloved series that I love, that I know you love,” Costner said. “I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5B or into the future.”
The “Bodyguard” actor played the patriarch of the fictional Dutton family for four and a half seasons on the series before a series of setbacks and scheduling conflicts during the writers’ strike.
“It was something that really changed me,” he said about the role. “I loved it, and I know you loved it. And I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning.”
“Horizon” is the Oscar-winning actor’s two-part Western saga that he’s directing and starring in. The film is in two parts and is labeled Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. Chapter 1 is set to hit theaters on June 28, while Chapter 2 will be released on Aug. 16.
Costner ended his message by saying that he loved “the relationship” that he and the audience has been “able to develop.”
“I’ll see you at the movies.”
Season 5B of “Yellowstone” is the second half of the show’s final season. It’s set to return on Nov. 10 on Paramount Network.
