The Super Bowl of fashion took place on Monday night as some of the biggest names convened in New York City for the annual Met Gala.
But if you saw photos of Katy Perry on the red carpet — those were fake.
The “Firework” singer took to Instagram to reveal she couldn’t make the invitation-only event because she had to work.
Many fans didn’t know this because AI images of the “American Idol” judge surfaced online of her donning ensembles matching “The Garden of Time” dress code while on a faux red carpet.
The photos even fooled her mom.
Perry shared a screengrab of a text conversation between her and her mom where she believed her daughter was on the exclusive carpet.
“Ha Feather! Didn’t know you went to the Met. What a gorgeous gown, you look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float. LOL,” her mom wrote alongside one of the doctored images.
The “California Gurls” singer then set the record straight.
“LOL mom the AI got you too, BEWARE!” she responded.
Two photos of Perry made the rounds on X, formerly Twitter, which garnered millions of views.
One shows Perry wearing a massive white ballgown covered in flowers with a leaf-like trim on the bottom of the gown. The photo amassed 14.6 million views.
The caption read “Katy Perry. That’s it. #MetGala.”
The second AI picture posted to X showed Perry wearing a grass and flower shirt with a bronze chest-plate corset. The photo received 4.5 million views.
“Katy Perry looks absolutely gorgeous on #MetGala 2024,” the tweet read.
Both photos contained a disclaimer from X that alerted users that the photos were “digitally created/ AI.”
It’s unknown who created the images in the first place.
