Jenn Tran is getting another shot at love as the next “Bachelorette.” She’s also making history as the first Asian American lead in the franchise.
In a surprise move made on Monday night’s finale of “The Bachelor,” host Jesse Palmer and Season 20’s bachelorette Charity Lawson made the announcement.
“I can say that our next bachelorette is someone who is intelligent. She’s witty, she’s fun, and she’s super kind,” Lawson explained. “Personally, I want to see a lot more of her and I can only hope that out of this experience that she’s getting ready to embark on she really does find true love.”
The 25-year-old Tran told the two she was “overwhelmed” and that it felt “so surreal to be sitting here.”
She also noted that she felt “so grateful” to be making history on the reality show for its upcoming 21st season.
“Growing up, I always wanted to see Asian representation on TV. Now, to be here today, being like, ‘I am going to be the main character in my story,’ I can’t help but think of how many people I’m inspiring and how many lives I can impact,” she gushed.
Tran is currently a physician’s assistant student from Miami, Florida. She was eliminated during Week 7 of the recent Season 28 of “The Bachelor” with Joey Graziadei.
She told Palmer and Lawson that she hopes to leave her upcoming season with a ring on her finger.
“I hope I find my person someone that I truly feel like is 100%, my perfect match and someone who I’m compatible with someone who he and I can have fun,” she said.
Season 21 of “The Bachelorette” is set to premiere later this year, according to PEOPLE.
