Irvine High School senior Drake Brito threw a no-hitter Wednesday in the Vaqueros 4-0 Pacific Coast League baseball victory over Sage Hill at Irvine.

“It was a great team performance highlighted by a beautifully pitched game by Drake Brito,” Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota told OC Sports Zone. “Drake has been absolutely solid for us all year long and we’re so happy for him to accomplish this feat. Coach Lee Cusey, the pitching coach, called a great game and Drake executed all game long.”

Brito struck out eight and walked three to register the complete game. Evan Tamayo was 2 for 3 with a double, RBI, and a run scored; Jack Dressendorfer was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored; Alex Cho was 1 for 3 with a stolen base, Owen Featherston was 2 for 3 with a run scored; Ethan Kim was 2 for 3, Jason Alderson was 1 for 1 with a double and a run scored and Hudson Hall was 1 for 2 with a run scored.

“The offense did enough banging out 11 hits,” Cota said. “However, today was really about Drake Brito and Nico Macalino, the catcher, being exceptional.”

With the victory, Irvine (13-12 overall) is in second place with an 8-4 record with two more league games next week vs. St. Margaret’s.
