The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 47 joined over 55 local Orange County elected officials and leaders, 54 members of the California Legislature, Congresswoman Katie Porter, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, California Insurance Commissioner Ricard Lara, and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus’s political leadership PAC, which represents 19 members of Congress, in endorsing State Senator Dave Min for Congressional District 47. This is the first endorsement by a labor union for this 2024 race.
“The working women and men of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 47 proudly endorse Dave Min for Congress,” said Colin Lavin, Business Manager of IBEW 47. “The son of immigrants, Dave knows firsthand how hard work and a fair shot at the American Dream can build the middle class in this country. Dave has dedicated his career to standing up to corporate greed on Wall Street, and standing with working families. From historic investments in state infrastructure, to ensuring worker protections on the job site, Dave has fought to bring costs down for Orange County families, and build a stronger California for all of us.”
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 47 represents more than 10,000 active members and retirees who work in a wide variety of fields, including utilities, construction, telecommunications, broadcasting, manufacturing, railroads and government. The IBEW is among the largest unions in the AFL-CIO.
Senator Min, the only Korean-American in the state legislature, has proven himself an incredibly effective legislative leader in the Senate, authoring 16 bills signed into law by the Governor, including leading legislation on hate crimes, gun violence prevention, family safety, and women’s reproductive rights. In the wake of the 2021 Huntington Beach Oil Spill, he stood up to the oil industry and led efforts to end offshore drilling. Min serves as Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and as Senate Vice Chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. He previously chaired the Senate Cybersecurity Select Committee.
Before entering the State Senate, Min was a law professor at UC Irvine, where he taught and researched in the area of business law. He resides with his wife Jane, a UC Irvine law professor who specializes in domestic violence and family law, and their three children in Irvine. Dave is a native Californian, a product of California public schools who graduated from the Wharton School and Harvard Law School, and an Eagle Scout.
