Shana Starr and Katie Gajda of Ivory & Olive Decor designed this game room with the idea of an upscale speakeasy in mind—they even created a hidden door that’s disguised as a bookshelf. The Spanish-style home influenced the pair to study classic libraries and East Coast ballrooms to find inspiration. “We added ornate window casings for architectural detail and layered rich plaid on both floors and walls,” Starr says. “The bold pattern anchors the space, creating a timeless, moody atmosphere that perfectly complements the home’s character.” ivoryolivedecor.com
1 CHANDELIERS
“We knew they’d be the room’s showstoppers,” Starr says. “Using two, they’re now the wife’s favorite feature.”
2 PAC-MAN GAME
“Pac-Man was what started it all,” Gajda says. “The goal was to have a fun room to party in without being campy.”
3 CARPET
“The room once had tile floors,” Starr says. “We replaced them with a custom plaid wool carpet, using that bold foundation as the starting point for the overall design.”
4 CHAIRS
“We layered textures by choosing chairs … with warm wood backs that complement the beams,” Gadja says.
5 NEON SIGN
“Another unexpected touch,” Starr says. “We love adding in something personal like a neon sign that says, ‘You Have to Play to Win,’ which is how the owner lives his life.”
6 COUCH
“Extra seating was essential, so a banquette became the perfect choice,” Gadja says.
