On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) responded to a traffic collision on Pacific Coast Highway, north of Admiralty Drive, involving a bicyclist and a black 2018 Toyota RAV4.
Upon arrival, officers located the bicyclist, a 42-year-old male, in the roadway in critical condition. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the RAV4, identified as 70-year-old Barbara Front of Huntington Beach, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the RAV4 was traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway and struck the bicyclist traveling northbound in southbound lanes of the roadway, north of Admiralty Drive.
The collision investigation is ongoing and being handled by the HBPD Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it is encouraged to contact HBPD Traffic Investigator J. Rounds (714) 536-5670.
