ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 9, 2022) – Anaheim Police Department homicide detectives have identified the victim, and suspect from a May 8, 2022 homicide investigation.
On Sunday, May 8, 2022, at about 8:39 a.m., APD officers were dispatched to an unknown trouble call in the 1500 block of W. Ball Road after receiving a report of screaming heard coming from a parked vehicle. Officers arrived and located the vehicle in question, a small SUV. They immediately contacted 24-year-old Anaheim resident, Jorge Escamilla, who exited the vehicle and was detained without incident. Upon inspection of the vehicle, officers located 34-year-old Anaheim resident Amado Francisco Lopez-Martinez, deceased inside the vehicle.
Lopez-Martinez had suffered stab wounds. A knife was also recovered at the scene and Escamilla was ultimately booked at the Anaheim City Jail on suspicion of murder, in lieu of $1 million bail.
Detectives are not disclosing the relationship between Escamilla and Lopez-Martinez, or a possible motive for the crime. Detectives are encouraging anyone with information of Escamilla, or his activities to contact APD homicide at 714-321-3669 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
