Homicide Investigation/Officer-Involved Shooting Victim and Suspect Identification

ANAHEIM, Calif. (September 1, 2021) – Anaheim homicide detectives have identified the victim and suspect involved in yesterday’s murder and officer involved shooting.

On August 31, 2021, at about 11:54 a.m. Anaheim police officers responded to a residence in the 2400 block of W. Greenleaf Avenue after a subject called police and claimed to have been shot. Officers arrived on scene and entered the residence in question in order to locate the possible victim. While inside, officers observed a homicide victim, 61-yearold David Erickson of Anaheim. Officers were then confronted by an armed suspect, 55-year-old Robert Nelson, also of Anaheim. An officer involved shooting occurred and at least one police officer fired their weapon. The initial responding officers backed out of the home and they were replaced by Anaheim PD SWAT officers.

APD SWAT officers entered the home and confirmed Nelson was deceased. Anaheim PD homicide detectives are working to determine the motive for the apparent homicide. Investigators from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office are conducting an investigation into the officer involved shooting.

No Anaheim police officers were injured as a result of the incident.
