ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 16, 2024) – Anaheim Police Detectives have booked a Santa Ana woman for murder after officers responded to a gang-related shooting in a residential neighborhood.
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, around 2:30 a.m., Anaheim Police and Anaheim Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the 800 block of W. Cottonwood Cir regarding a shooting that had just occurred. Before emergency services arrived, two victims were transported to a local hospital by witnesses.
Jose Andres Abrego, 30, of Anaheim, was suffering from at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The second victim, also an adult male, was stabbed at least one time and is expected to survive.
The suspect fled the scene prior to the Officers’ arrival. Detectives identified Jannett Cureno, 24, as the suspect. Cureno was located and arrested without incident in the 300 block of Newhope St. in Santa Ana around 1 p.m. Cureno was booked into the Anaheim Detention Facility and is being held in lieu of $1 million.
