Preparations for the Orange County All-Star Baseball Game are continuing. The game, run by the Ryan Lemmon Foundation, will be held Wednesday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Great Park Stadium.
About the game
The Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim started and has organized the game since its inception in 1968 before Guy Lemmon’s Ryan Lemmon Foundation took over this year. Dick Owens of the Ryan Lemmon Foundation is game director.
The game will include the 48 best senior players from the 83 high schools throughout the county who were nominated by their coaches and selected by all-star coaches Jake Haney (Crean Lutheran, South) and Josh Kliner (El Modena, North).
“We will continue the rich history of the game, which all started with the Kiwanis Club,” Lemmon said. “We’re excited for this new chapter, having the game at the Great Park, streaming it, and adding new elements to the event.”
Past players
Past player have included os Angeles Dodger Freddie Freeman; Los Angeles Angels Griffin Canning and Patrick Sandoval; retired Seattle Mariner Bret Boone and his brother Aaron, the current New York Yankees manager; retired New York Yankee Phil Hughes; and retired San Diego Padre Randy Jones.
Streaming service
This year, the Foundation has arranged for Long Beach-based iPost Sports, a sports streaming platform, to stream and record the game so family, friends, coaches, and scouts anywhere can watch the game either live or later for post-game viewing, according to the Foundation.
Information will be available at the stadium the day of the game.
Pre-game activities
All players will do live infield drills, on-field hitting practice, and there will be special recognition awards for Joe Dale, who ran the all-star game for many years, and John Delham, who is a past CIF Commissioner and who announced the all-star game for 44 years, according to the foundation.
